Your Word Here: Political Totes
Nancy Froehlich, Assistant Professor, Western Michigan State;
Zvezdana Stojmirovic, Professor, Maryland Institute College of Art;
How would you summarize the election season?
We want your opinion! In a word. Drawn by you. Juxtaposed. On a tote bag.
Each participant will be challenged to sum up his or her experience of the political season in a single word. Using the tote bag as a blank canvas, designers will play a modern version of the surrealist game Exquisite Corpse to create a collabortively authored tote bag.
How the game is played :
1. Design your chosen word. (examples of typefaces and hand rendered lettering will be available)
2. Using fabric markers, draw your word on one third of a tote bag.
3. Pass the tote bag to the designer sitting next to you.
4. Steps 1 through 3 will be repeated until three designers have made their mark on the tote bag.
The result? A Take-away tote bag featuring three politically-charged hand-lettered words.
